Superkart Classes

The different classes of super karts are denoted by the color of the numbers & number plates.

This is the ‘entry level’ to superkarting utilizing the FR125 Rotax Max engine, competitors enjoy a controlled class with no engine modifications allowed, allowing each driver to have equal equipment at a reduced cost. This engine does not have a gearbox, instead it utilizes a centrifugal clutch, this means racers concentrate on learning the perfect line and maintaining corner speed to achieve fast lap times. The engine as chassis rules are very similar to those of the KA, this allows sprint karters to easily setup their kart for super karting, with only a few slight changes, like gearing and a rain light required. This class also features sub classes, by minimum weight including driver and kart:

Light 165 Kg – Number plates on kart with white background and red number

Heavy 185 Kg – Number plates on kart with blue background and yellow number

Super Heavy 205 Kg – Number plates on kart with yellow background and blue number

Top speed for a senior is around 150 Kph.

This is the first of the gearbox classes.

The 125cc gearbox kart is the Stock Honda which uses a CR125 Honda engine.

CIK stamped type Chassis, bodywork and engines are very controlled to minimize the cost associated with racing. For the budget conscious racer that wants to run a gearbox kart, this class deserves more than a second look.

It’s number plates are red background with yellow numbers.

Top speed is around 185 Kph.

This class is usually fitted with a 125cc Purpose built engine with the Honda RS125 and the Yamaha YZ being the most popular. Modification to the engine is permitted. Purpose built chassis are used, where they tend to be longer and have various adjustments available to the front and rear end. This is also the first class where full body work (wings) are allowed, introducing aerodynamics that makes these little machines lightning fast.

The number plates are recognized by red background and white numbers.

Top speed is above 200 Kph.

This class is powered by a single cylinder 250cc engine, water cooled, these karts have up to 60bhp with similar chassis and in some cases identical chassis to its bigger brother (250cc International), this class offers similar cornering and handling characteristics with less engine power. While motorcycle engines are still popular dedicated European engines have become available. Full body work is permitted, and the chassis also feature many tuning abilities.

Number plates have a white background with black numbers.

Top speed is in the order of 210 Kph.

This is the pinnacle of our sport and is considered the Formula 1 of Super karting worldwide.

The 250cc Internationals or ‘twins’ use twin cylinder engines, specific Super kart engines, with six speed gearboxes. These engines are very much designed for performance, with power now in excess of 90bhp, these engines are fitted to a longer and wider chassis than other classes.  The class features minutely adjustable chassis, four wheel disc brakes, full aerodynamic bodywork. Advanced features, like ‘no-lift shift’, adjustable brake bias. These karts rival in lap times to a V8 Supercar at many circuits.

The plates are with yellow background and black numbers.

Top speed is around 240 Kph.

About SuperKarts

SuperKarting is not Go Karts/Sprintkarts, it is high speed racing on full race circuits. SuperKarts are a safe and effective way to learn the art of racing. Many racers have used this sport to hone their skills in racing on long circuits and learn the art of driving at high speed. The learning in this category has been used to accelerate their careers in motorsport while using knowledge gained in Superkarts to understand momentum and race lines. These are the two key factors that make a good race driver a great driver.

SuperKarts is an affordable motorsport that is recognised internationally. It is a global sport with clubs in New Zealand, Europe, UK and North American. Our History

Our History

1976 - 1986
Establishment
Establishment

The Club was formed very early in 1976 under the auspices of the Victorian Karting Association. At the time it was known as the VKA Road Race Division with it’s roots being at the Corio track just outside of Geelong. During this period the club raced at many other tracks often sharing meetings with Motorcycle clubs.

In February of 1984 the club changed its name to the Victorian Superkart Division, then in July 1986 registered itself as the Victorian Superkart Club Inc. We affiliated with CAMS in that same year being previously being administrated by the VKA.

1987 - 1996
Expanded
Beginning Years

As the foundation was put down in the early years, membership and the the profile of Superkart grow.  In these expanding years found a major backer for the National Title, Toshiba (Aust) which took place at Calder Park.

The profile grew where we saw the 250cc racing at Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide. It was reported the Superkarts made a lasting visual impacting on the crowd most agreeing that karting was excellent value for the money.
